Edward Mann is recruiting on behalf of a national charity based in Woolloomooloo. They are looking for a Finance Manager on a permanent basis.

This is a hands-on position, working directly with the CFO. As you will also be managing a small team of 3, the ideal candidate will have strong team management experience, alongside a proven ability across multiple areas of Finance. Including, financial reporting, AP/AR oversight, compliance and process improvement.

This position is paying up to 150k including super + salary packaging (equivalent of circa 165k outside of NFP/Charity).

Responsibilities:

Financial Reporting:

  • Preparation of accurate monthly financial results, within strict deadlines to enable effective financial management.

  • Preparation and communication of the monthly cashflow statement for management use and for presentation to the Audit & Risk Committee and Board, to enable effective cashflow monitoring, organisational planning and Investment decisions.

  • Daily management of cash accounts. Ensuring cash is moved as and when required to maximise interest returns without compromising cashflow requirements.

  • Manage and monitor the balance sheet, ensuring prompt follow up on any reconciliation items.

  • Manage and monitor all debtors, ensuring invoices are followed up and paid promptly.

  • Management of external grant accounting, ensuring reporting and auditing requirements are satisfied in accordance with the specific grant conditions.

  • Management and monitoring of the asset register, ensuring all assets are depreciated in accordance with accounting standards, correct approval is sought for the purchase and disposal of assets and ensuring regular stocktaking occurs.

  • Monitoring of the inventory levels for Retail & Events, ensuring proper accounting policies are followed and any significant stocktake variances are investigated.

  • Management and monitoring of the daily and monthly event income reconciliation process, ensuring all event income received; directly to the bank, via websites, or via a 3rd party trader, is reconciled to income recorded in the event income database.

  • Preparation of the monthly investment performance report, for all business investments, circa $80-100m, for presentation to the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) & Board.

  • Managing a team of 3 finance staff and a foster a culture continuous business improvement within the team.

 

Procurement:

  • Provide leadership to business unit owners and managers on cost effective procurement to ensure purchasing decisions achieve the best value for money and the best outcomes.

  • Identify, review & monitor high risk areas within the procurement process.

  • Management of the purchasing and accounts payables functions, ensuring all expenditure is properly justified, approved, within budget and in accordance with company policies.

 

Compliance:

  • Manage, review and approve the timely preparation and lodgement of the monthly BAS with the ATO, ensuring the correct treatment of GST in all transactions.

  • Manage, review and approve the timely preparation and lodgement of the annual FBT return with the ATO, monitoring all staff salary packaging and other fringe benefits to ensure the company incurs no FBT liability.

  • Take a leading role in the investigation and reporting of Fraud within the company, advising the leadership team of any concerns.

  • Work with the internal auditors to maintain critical internal controls and identify control weaknesses.

  • Develop, regularly review and communicate finance and administration policies for all staff across NSW to ensure the best outcomes for the company through; effective internal controls, accountability and transparency, equity and efficient streamlined processes.

  • Provide leadership to the ELT, and fundraising team to ensure compliance with the provisions of the Charitable Fundraising Act 1991.

  • Provide leadership to management and staff in fundraising roles on effective cash handling procedures. Includes training, and the monitoring & audit of all fundraising staff across NSW to ensure their compliance with the key strict policy & procedure.

  • Manage the accounting system for, and reporting on the allocation of, ‘restricted use income’, to ensure transparent allocation of bequests and donors in accordance with donors’ specific requests.

 

Candidate requirements:

  • CPA or CA Qualified, those who are studying or qualified by experience will also be considered.

  • Proven management experience

  • Strong time management skills, as well as attention to detail.

  • Excellent understanding of accounting principles, both technical and commercial accounting.

  • High level of integrity and independence, ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written forms with the Board and Executive Team.

  • Track record in problem-solving skills and recommending solutions for their implementation and quick adoption.

  • Previous experience working in a Not-for-profit or Charity desired, but not essential.

  • Advanced computer skills – proficient in MS Office, Excel, SharePoint and Adobe.
